Boats launched/diverted : Atlantic 85 & D Class
Date : Sunday 26 February
Diverted at : 11:40
Back on Exercise : 12:30
Weather: Disturbed after the storm with a SW F5 wind.
Whilst on exercise the lifeboats were diverted to assist a catamaran whose mooring chain had broken. The boat had drifted into School Rythe, Bosham and was up against a sea wall and in danger of damaging herself. A member of the public called the Coastguard, but meanwhile two men managed to get on board and put out some fenders and then on discovering the kill cord still in place on the outboard, managed to start the engine. As the lifeboats arrived they had just got the boat off the wall so the D Class was used to help manoeuvre the catamaran into deeper water where the Atlantic 85 took over and towed her to a vacant mooring. The men were transferred ashore and the lifeboats went back to their exercises having informed the Harbour Master so the owner could be contacted.
