Crew rescued from grounded power boat

Boat Launched : D-Class & Atlantic 85

Date : 12 July

Launched at : 16:27 & 20:00

Returned at : 17:45 & 21:15

The D-Class lifeboat was launched to go to a 42ft power boat which had run aground just to the East of East Head. There were 2 ladies in the crew and one was pregnant and they requested that they were brought ashore. A crew member was put on board and the two ladies taken back to the lifeboat station and given refreshments whilst they waited for a taxi. The crew member on board checked the boat and laid a kedge anchor. He identified that there was significant damage to the propellers and fittings but no water was leaking into the bilges. It was agreed that a lifeboat would return at about 20:00 to oversee the refloating of the boat.

At 20:00 the Atlantic 85 was launched and went to the casualty vessel. She had refloated and once the lifeboat was standing by the skipper restarted the engines and reversed into the main channel. There was some vibration so the boat kept a slow pace and as the helm was not familiar with the harbour he asked the Atlantic to escort him to Northney Marina where a grateful skipper thanked the crew for their help and support.
