Landfall Garden Fete
Posted 17.08.10

The Cook Family organised another very successful garden fete on Saturday 14 August . The damp and grey morning did not deter the visitors whose generosity raised £2,500 for the RNLI in just 2 hours. There were the usual stalls; tombola, bric-a-brac, RNLI goods, crafts and paintings, raffle, cakes and refreshments and the BBQ was doing a good trade. The introduction of an auction added an extra interest to the event. The RNLI is extremely grateful to the Cook family for their kindness and support in opening up their garden for this fete.

999 Day
Posted 12.04.10
The RNLI took part in the Island's 999 Day at Beachlands on Sunday 11th April. The Atlantic 85 was towed 3 miles along the beach and road from the lifeboat where it was on display. At 3.30pm the lifeboat was launched from the beach and joined the D class lifeboat in a demonstration. This was an historic event for Hayling as the last time an RNLI lifeboat was launched from the sea front directly into Hayling Bay was in 1924 after which the lifeboat station on the sea front was closed. In 1975 the RNLI then re-opened a lifeboat station on Hayling at Sandy Point on the south eastern corner of the island where it is today. Photo gallery to follow shortly

Thanks to Glen Hardy
Posted 03.02.10
In September 2009 Glen Hardy was the first person to have circumnavigated Hayling Island as a swimmer pulled along by an aqua scooter, a distance of about 15 nautical miles raising money for the RNLI. On Sunday 31st January Glen, accompanied by some of his support team, Mum, Laura and Dad, Dave, along with Eddie Ault and Jack Watts, presented the lifeboat station with a cheque for £400.  During Glen's circumnavigation, there were strong wind at times, gusting F8 according to Chimet. Delays meant he arrived at Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club at 9 pm, in the dark. Glen was very grateful  for the advice and support from various bodies, particularly HM Coastguard, who phoned near the end to find out if he was OK, and monitored his  progress. Also to be recognised for their support were the Hardy family and friends on support boats, and Matt Smith on his jetski, who could get closer to Glen than the outboard boats, being careful about their props.
