The RNLI lifeboats from Bembridge and Selsey visited Chichester Harbour and Hayling Island lifeboat station on Thursday 28th December as part of a joint training exercise. [Click on picture to enlarge]


 
Shorecrew receive their RNLI jumpers
 
Ted Munro and Rod Till have recently completed their year's training to become voluntary shorecrew at the lifeboat station. Ted was presented with his RNLI jumper at the crew Christmas party and Rod, who was unable to attend the party, will receive his jumper in the New Year.
 

 
 

The Great South Run

 
Congratulations to Hayling Island RNLI lifeboat crew member, Tony Green, who completed the Great South Run on Sunday 22nd October 2006 and raised raising £146.50 for the lifeboat station. His time was 2:12:29

Lifeboat crew took part in the Hayling Island Remembrance Parade on Sunday 12th November 2006.


Junior Great South Run

 
Congratulations to Thomas and Edward from Emsworth who took part in the Junior Great South Run on 22nd October 2006 and raised £100 for the Hayling Island lifeboat station. Thomas completed the 2.5km run in 15mins 24secs and Edward completed the Mini Great South Run of 1.5km in 10mins 5secs.
 

The lifeboat crew would like to thank John Delahunty, landlord of the Ship Inn, his wife Rita and the organisers and supporters of the Langston Raft Race for their kind donation of £2,425 raised during the annual raft race. The money will go direct to the Hayling Island Lifeboat Station.

Mrs Betty Battle

 
It is with great sadness that it is announced that Mrs Betty Battle, died on Sunday 1st October 2006  after a long illness. During her lifetime she had most generously funded the two inshore lifeboats currently based at Hayling Island Lifeboat Station. Betty was a past chairman of Ashtead RNLI Fundraising Branch and a most generous supporter of the RNLI. She was a regular visitor to the station and will be sadly missed.
 

Farnborough Masonic Club

 
On Sunday 27th August a group from the Farnborough Masonic Club visited Hayling Island and presented the lifeboat station with a cheque for £1,000.


Station Open Day

 

A successful and enjoyable Open Day was held on Sunday 20th August when around 400 visitors throughout the day watched the lifeboats launch and demonstrate their manoeuvrability. Also on display was a Hayling Island fire engine, HM Coastguards, First Responders, the Southern Model Lifeboats Society, Chichester Harbour Conservancy and the Lowland Search Dogs. The children enjoyed the special visit from  “Stormy Stan” who arrived in the D Class lifeboat, “Amanda, James & Ben”.  Proceedings were interrupted when the Atlantic 75 B Class lifeboat, “Betty Battle”, was tasked to two incidents, one involving an 11 metre yacht that had run aground in Chichester harbour which was successful towed into deeper water and the other to three windsurfers in difficulties off the Hayling beach. SALA Visit

 
A group from the Ewell Study & Leisure Association visited the lifeboat station on Thursday 17th August where they were shown a film about the RNLI's "Train one Save Many" campaign.

 
Hayling Carnival - 5th August 2006
 
Lifeboat crew and their families from Hayling Island Lifeboat Station took  in the Hayling Carnival to raise money for local charities. The theme of the floats was "Books". For their float, "The Last Kingdom", the crew were awarded 3rd prize in the competition.

The float was pulled by a tractor from Stoke Farm driven by Sam Wilson. The Wilson family were particularly helpful in providing the trailer and a venue for building the float.


Selsey RNLI Lifeboat Week

 
On Sunday 30th July Tony, Ian, Pete and Jasper (behind the camera) in the  Hayling Island Atlantic 75 joined other local RNLI  lifeboats in a joint training exercise with the Coastguard helicopter "India Juliet" at Selsey on the last day of Selsey's Lifeboat Week festivities. [more pictures]

Dunannie School Visit

 
A group of children and parents from Dunannie School visited the Lifeboat Station on Wednesday 28th June. This was the fourteenth year that children from the school have visited the lifeboat station and before they watched the lifeboats being launched on a routine training exercise they presented Nigel Roper, Lifeboat Operations Manager, Hayling island, with a cheque for £1,200 for the station which the children raised during their recent sponsored walk.

St Mary's School Visit

 
St Mary's School Byfleet visited the lifeboat station on Thursday 22nd June and watched the Atlantic 75 "Betty Battle" go off to Cowes for a small repair. A relief Atlantic 75 lifeboat, B734, "Amy Constance" will be on station on Hayling Island until "Betty Battle" returns.

Work Boat Event

 
The B Class Lifeboat, Atlantic 75, "Betty Battle" attended the Chichester Harbour Conservancy Work Boats event on Tuesday 30th June.
