 For many of the rescues we are only able to give limited information to protect the confidentiality of the casualties.
 
In 2009 there were 127  requests for the Hayling Island lifeboats to be tasked to incidents.

The lifeboat was launched  to a board sailor waving for assistance on the Winner Bank, at Chichester Harbour Entrance. The male casualty and rig (broken boom) were taken on board and brought back to the Lifeboat Station at 12.04. The lifeboat was then made ready for sea by 12.20. 

126 Wed 2nd Dec Atlantic 85 15.45 (already afloat)

The B Class Atlantic 85 was tasked to West Wittering at 15.45 hrs to a man acting suspiciously up to his waist in the water on West Wittering beach. The West Wittering Estates Manager contacted Solent Coastguard who diverted the lifeboat, which was on exercise in Chichester Harbour. By the time the lifeboat arrived on scene he was identified as a West Sussex District council worker in a dry suit and lifejacket. The Lifeboat resumed her exercise at 15.52 hrs.

124/125 Sat 28th Nov Atlantic 85 & D Class 18.02 F7

At the request of West Sussex Police, Solent Coastguard requested the launch of both lifeboats to search for a 62yr old suicidal male reported to have entered the water at West Wittering. Selsey Lifeboat, Rescue 104 Helo and HMCG Auxiliaries were also tasked.  After searching for 1 1/2 hours in winds of F7  and a heavy sea both inside the harbour and south of West Wittering, all units were stood down as the man had been found ashore at Bosham.  the lifeboats RTS at 19.45.

122/123 Mon 16th Non Atlantic 85 & D Class 01.57 F6/7 Both boats were launched to search  for a missing man .
121 Wed 4th Nov Atlantic 85 16.04 crew assembly - no launch required F5/6

The lifeboat was tasked to assist a kite surfer in difficulties south of Hayling Island but  the launch was cancelled at 16.10 as assistance was no longer required.

120 Sun 18th Oct D Class still afloat D Class went to the assistance of a 22ft yacht that had run aground on West Pole Sands. The lifeboat crew tried to tow the boat into deeper water but it was hard aground. The crew checked all on board were OK and returned to station. The yacht refloated as the tide came in.

The lifeboat was launched to a speed boat that had run aground on the Winner Bank with 3 adults and 1 small child on board. The mother and child were taken on board the lifeboat and the D Class towed the boat to deeper water. The A85 then towed the vessel back to Itchenor. A85 returned to station at 18.21
117 Sun 11th Oct Atlantic 85 13.45 crew assemble F4

Selsey lifeboat was towing a yacht taking in water from the East Solent to Northney marina. The coastguards requested the Atlantic to take over the tow from Selsey Lifeboat at the harbour entrance in about 1 hour. The crew assembled. Thirty minutes later the crew  were stood down as the yacht was now making it’s own way back to Gosport.

116 Sun 11th Oct D Class still afloat F4

At 12.45 whilst attending a dead horse on East Wittering beach the crew saw a kite surfer in the water having lost his board. He was escorted to the beach, the board located and brought to him.

115 Sun 11th Oct D Class 12.16 F4

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a horse in the water off East Wittering. The D boat was launched and found the dead animal at the waters edge. The horse had suffered a heart attack. The crew assisted moving the animal up the beach and made sure that those attending to the horse were safe in the water.

114 Tue 6th Oct Atlantic 85 12.14 F6 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a yacht that had suffered an engine fire. Assistance was required as all power was lost and the jib was jammed. Once on scene the casualty vessel was in tow by the Chichester Harbour patrol and the lifeboat crew were stood down. The lifeboat retuned to station at 12.35.
112/113 Sun 5th Oct Atlantic 85 & D Class 19.03 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to a man who had fallen into the water in Chichester Harbour whilst trying to board his catamaran from his dinghy. Click here to read the full news release.
111 Sun 27th Sept Atlantic 85 10.28 F3

The duty crew  had already mustered to launch for a daylight exercise and in the process of passing over crew numbers etc, mentioned to Solent Coastguard that there was a long keeled yacht stranded NE of the Station on the Winner Bank, just inside Chichester Harbour. HMCG requested that the lifeboat be launched and to ascertain that all was well on board. There was also concern that the vessel might be neaped. The Lifeboat launched, proceeded and closed the yacht's position or as near as she could get as the vessel  was well aground. It was established that the two persons on board were OK and that arrangements were going to be made with others, to tow her off on the next high tide later in the day. This was in fact done and she was refloated with outside assistance later in the day. The lifeboat departed the scene and commenced her exercise at 10.52.

110 Wed 9th Sept D Class 15.51 F5

Solent Coastguard requested the  launch of the D Class to a white dinghy supposedly in difficulties following a 999 call from a member of the public.  Once on scene, it was established that the dinghy had been moored by a fishing vessel which had gone further out to sea, fishing. As nothing was out of order, the Helm of the D Class lifeboat ensured that the dinghy was properly anchored and then returned to station at 16.13.

108/109 Tue 8th Sept Atlantic 85 & D Class approx 18.10 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats following reports received that there were persons in difficulty in the water off West Wittering beach. When the lifeboats reached the scene the 4 men who were being taken out to sea by the tide had been rescued by the local lifeguards and the lifeboats made sure no one else was in difficulty in the water before returning to station
107 Sun 6th Sept Atlantic 85 11.21 F4

The lifeboat was tasked to join the search for a missing man thought to be in distress after clothes, glasses, mobile phone & car keys were found on the Eastney Beach. Hampshire Police involved. Coastguard Helo 104 also tasked. The Hayling lifeboat searched the East Winner sands outside Langstone Harbour entrance and the West Pole Sands outside Chichester Harbour. Nothing found. Hampshire Police found him at home. The lifeboat returned to station at 12.05.

106 Sat 5th Sept Atlantic 85 15.31 F5

The lifeboat was launched at  to support Selsey Lifeboat & ILB in the search for a missing boy off Selsey Bill. The  Coastguard Helo 104 and mobile were also tasked. A comprehensive search of the area around Selsey Bill and down to the west was conducted on west going tide. After two and a half hours, it was established by West Sussex Police that it was a hoax call and all units stood down. The lifeboat returned to station at 18.15.

105 Sun 29th Aug Atlantic 85 tasked at 10.54

The lifeboat was tasked at to an abandoned dinghy (tender) drifting 1/2 nm west of West Pole, in Hayling Bay. Once on scene, there was no evidence that anyone had been on board. A search was conducted in the immediate but abandoned after it was established that it was likely to have come off a yacht. The Lifeboat was released at 12.00 and continued on exercise.

104 Wed 26th Aug Atlantic 85 16.35 F6/7

The lifeboat was launched to a 42ft yacht that was dragging her anchor in the Thorney Channel, Chichester Harbour and had ended up on a lee shore. The skipper had gone ashore to go shopping. Solent Coastguard were contacted by the skipper's wife in a state of panic as she was not sure what to do and had two small children on board. Once alongside, two crewmen were placed aboard and the mother and two children were reassured and all found to be OK. The yacht was still afloat so the engine was started and attempts were made to raise the anchor using the built in windlass. This was not working so the anchor and chain were raised by hand. In the conditions prevailing, the anchor was judged to be of insufficient size. The vessel was taken initially to a mooring but again, judged not large enough to hold the size and weight of the casualty vessel. It was at this point that the skipper returned to the vessel. Having consulted the
Chichester Harbour Conservancy, it was agreed to escort the vessel to a pontoon at Itchenor where she was made safe. The Atlantic 85 then returned to station and made ready for further service at 19.05

103 Mon 24th Aug Atlantic 85 17.36 F4

Following a number of 999 calls to Solent Coastguard the lifeboat was launched to two girls (17 & 12) in the water following the capsize of their Topper sailing dinghy off West Wittering. They had lost their dagger board which was not tied tied on and therefore unable to right it. However, they managed to get back to the shore by the time the lifeboat had arrived. The Lifeboat returned to station at approx 18.06 

102 Sun 23rd Aug D Class 17.46 F2 The lifeboat was launched to a sailing dinghy which had capsized many times and was drifting out of the harbour. The vessel righted and taken back into harbour under tow and returned to HISC. RTS 18.13 hrs
101 Sun 23rd Aug D Class 16.34 F2 The lifeboat was launched to small speedboat with 3 teenagers on board with broken outboard engine who were waving for assistance and drifting out of the harbour on the ebb tide. The speed boat was towed to Itchenor.  RTS 17.42
100 Sat 22nd Aug D Class 22.44 In the meantime, the D Class had returned to her cradle (22.40) and had been recovered onto the beach when she was tasked to assist Selsey Lifeboat with a 26' cabin cruiser which was in danger of sinking having earlier hit the Mixon rocks off Selsey. The D Class was relaunched at 22.44hrs. With two salvage pumps running, she needed to be assisted into the upper section of Sparkes Marina where their crane driver had been called in to lift the vessel from the water. Selsey Lifeboat towed the casualty to the mouth of the Marina where the tow was passed to the ILB for the short passage within the Marina. After vessel made safe ashore, the crew of the casualty vessel were given accommodation at HISC and the D Class RTS at 23.10hrs
98/99 Sat 22nd Aug Atlantic 85 & D Class 21.31 & 21.44

The A85 Launch requested by HMCG to vessel aground on West Pole Sands (Eastoke Point). Once on scene the  A85  requested the launch of the D Class because casualty vessel in too shallow water.  D Class launched at 21.44hrs. On flood tide and under the supervision of the D Class,  the vessel lifted off and was escorted by both Lifeboats into Harbour. As she made her own way initially up harbour, it soon became clear that the skipper had no local knowledge especially in darkness and the Snr Helm on the A85 took the decision to escort the vessel to Emsworth where she was moored up.  The A85 RTS at 23.45hrs

97 Tue 18th Aug Atlantic 85 19.54 The lifeboat was launched to a RIB with 8 people on board which had machine failure by the Forts in the Solent. The RIB was towed back into Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 21.35.
96 Tue 18th Aug Atlantic 85 17.04 The lifeboat was launched to a 10m angling boat with machine failure with 6 people on board which was taken in tow into the harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 18.16.
95 Tue 18th Aug D Class 13.33 The lifeboat was launched to search for a child missing off West Wittering who may have wandered into the water. Immediately after launch the child was found ashore safe and well. The lifeboat returned to station at 13.38
94 Sun 16th Aug Atlantic 85 18.23 F3 The lifeboat was launched to assist a dinghy that had capsized near the entrance to Chichester Harbour. When the lifeboat reached the dinghy the 2 men on board had managed to get the boat upright and it was escorted by the lifeboat back into the harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 19.05.
93 Sun 16th Aug D Class still afloat F3 As the D Class returned to station it was tasked to search for a missing boy who was eventually found on the beach. The lifeboat returned to station at 14.58.
92 Sun 16th Aug  D Class still afloat F3 During the search, a man struggling in the water waved to the D Class and was seen disappearing under the water . He was taken on board and dropped off on the lifeguard boat which appeared on scene. He was taken ashore
90/91 Sun 16th Aug Atlantic 85 & D Class 14.37 F3 Both lifeboats were launched to search for a missing girl off West Wittering who may have been in the water but who was eventually found ashore. The Atlantic returned to station at 14.37.
89 Wed 12th Aug Atlantic 85 15.59 F4 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a person in difficulty in the water near Langstone Bridge. The lifeboat reached the scene by which time a nearby kayaker had managed to help the child out of the water. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.22.
88 Sun 9th Aug D Class 19.31 F2/3 The LOM had received a request from parents reporting that their son was on board a sailing dinghy which had been trying to enter Chichester Harbour against the tide for several hours in light winds. As the crew had already assembled for another incident, the LOM authorised the launch of the D Class Lifeboat to tow the dinghy in. However once alongside, a tow was refused but it was decided to escort the vessel into harbour and to Hayling Is. S.C. Once safely ashore, the lifeboat returned to Station.
87 Sun 9th Aug Atlantic 85 18.11 F2/3

The lifeboat was launched to assist  small fishing (angling) boat that  had broken down. The casualty was towed to safety.The lifeboat returned to station and made ready for further service.

86 Sat 8th Aug Atlantic 85 23.42 F2

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to assist a powerboat that had run aground. The water intake was blocked and the engine over heated. The lifeboat crew helped to start the engine and the boat was escorted to safety. The lifeboat returned to station at 01.30.

85 Tue 28th July Atlantic 85 13.57 F5/6

Following a request via mobile phone from a single handed kayaker, 'lost' somewhere between the Isle of Wight and Hayling Is,  Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the  lifeboat  to commence searching in the southern half of Hayling Bay.  Bembridge RNLI all weather and inshore lifeboats and Sandown Rescue were also tasked. He was finally found by the Bembridge Lifeboat amongst two ships anchored in St Helen's Roads. off Bembridge. The lifeboat returned to station at 14.30.

84 Sun 26th July Atlantic 85 14.25 F5 The lifeboat was launched to assist a yacht with jammed steering near the entrance to Chichester Harbour. As the lifeboat towed the yacht the jammed rudder cleared and the yacht was able to continue its journey. The lifeboat returned to station at 15.00
83 Sun 26th July Atlantic 85 12.36 F5 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a yacht with steering failure off Chichester Bar Beacon. The vessel was towed into Chichester Harbour and handed over to the Chichester Harbour Patrol vessel and taken up to Birdham. The lifeboat returned to station at 13.15
82 Sun 26th July Atlantic 85 12.03 F5 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat following a MAYDAY from a vessel aground on the Winner Bank with a rope around its propeller. The yacht was taken in tow and taken to the sailing club pontoon. The lifeboat returned to station at12.43
81 Sun 26th July D Class 11.38 already afloat F5 The lifeboat was already afloat completing a demonstration for the Open Day when the lifeboat crew spotted a Moth class sailing dinghy capsize opposite the station. The dinghy had broken gear. The sailor was taken on board the lifeboat and his dinghy was towed back to the lifeboat station at 11.57
79/80 Sat 25th July Atlantic 85 & D Class 17.21 F4 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to assist the ambulance service transfer a man who had fallen off a coastal footpath and broken his leg. The ambulance was unable to get near the casualty. He was taken in the D Class lifeboat and with the assistance of the lifeboat crew on the Atlantic 85 he was transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Northney Marina. The lifeboats returned to station at 18.26.
77/78 Sat 26th July Atlantic 85 & D Class 16.52 F4 Both lifeboats were awaiting to be recovered following a PR exercise at Langstone when a MAYDAY was sent by a yacht in Hayling Bay. The skipper of the yacht had fallen over board and his wife had thrown a line to him but she had been unable to get him back on the yacht and was unsure of their position. Hayling Rescue also responded and a lifeboat crew member was transferred on to Hayling Rescue to assist the skipper who was on his own. The lifeboats an dHayling Rescue then serached for the yacht. Hayling  Rescue was first on scene and the lifeboat crew member went into the water to assist the casualty and using a knife from Hayling Rescue, the casualty's wife cut the line and her husband was assisted on to Hayling Rescue. The casualty was then transferred to the Atlantic 85 and taken back to the lifeboat station and later transferred to an ambulance as he had suspected hypothermia after being in the water for 45mins. Hayling Rescue, with assistance from lifeboat crew, towed the yacht into Sparkes Marina and the casualty's wife was then taken by lifeboat to the lifeboat station. The lifeboats returned to station at 17.16
76 Fri 24th July Atlantic 85 17.13 F6

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to search for a jet skier driver missing in the water after his unoccupied jet ski was washed ashore at Eastney. Both Portsmouth Lifeboats, the Hayling Island Atlantic 85 and Coastguard Helicopter 104 were all tasked. The man was found (very cold having been in the water for 25 minutes) by a passing windsurfer and handed over to Portsmouth Lifeboat which  took him back to Portsmouth Lifeboat Station and he was  passed into the care of waiting ambulance crew. The Hayling lifeboat was stood down and returned to Station. 

74/75 Thurs 23rd July Atlantic 85 & D Class 16.40 F5/6

Both lifeboats were launched to a MacGregor 24' with 3 POB stranded on the northern edge of the Winner Bank, Chichester Harbour on the fast ebbing tide.  The Lifeboat helmsman decided that the boat was too far aground and as the skipper was happy to sit it out until the next high tide, the anchor was deployed and left aground.  The lifeboats returned to station:  A85 at 17.35 and D Class at 17.25.

73 Thurs 23rd July D Class 15.27 F/6

The lifeboat was launched to a 14' Fletcher speedboat with 4 adults stranded on saltings north of the Mill Rythe channel. The lifeboat  took off the 4 POB and left the speedboat at anchor to be recovered on the next high tide. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.30 with the casualties.

72 Sun 5th July D Class 17.10 F4 The lifeboat was launched to assist a small fishing boat with engine trouble on the Winner Bank in Chichester Harbour. When the lifeboat reached the boat the skipper had managed to get his boat started and the lifeboat escorted the vessel into deeper water. The lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service by 17.30.
71 Sun 5th July Atlantic 85 09.55 F4

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat after receiving a report that two people were in the water from a capsized dinghy. When the lifeboat reached the scene, the casualties had managed to get ashore assisted by others.

70 Sun 5th July Atlantic 85 18.30 F3 The coastguard reported that a woman and a dog where being swept out to sea at East Wittering. A few seconds after the Atlantic 85 was launch they reported that the person (subsequently found to be a man) had come ashore.  As the lifeboat reached the scene, the coastguard reported that the dog had been picked up buy a small open boat. The lifeboat crew picked up the dog and returned it to the owner on the beach and then returned to station at 19.00.
69 Sun 5th July D Class 12.21 F2

The lifeboat was launched to search for a  woman who had disappeared whilst swimming in the sea parallel to Hayling Island.  After searching for some 10-12 mins, it was established that she had made it ashore and the lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at 12.50.

68 Wed 1st July Atlantic 85

Whilst on exercise, the A85 tasked at 20.10 to the area seaward  of a dredger after a member of the public reported seeing someone in the water. Once on scene , it was found to be a very large bank of seaweed and debris churned up by the dredger. The lifeboat returned to exercise at 20.20.

67 Wed 1st July D Class crew assembled but launch not required Solent coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to search for a missing child who may have been in the water. The child was found safe and well ashore.
66 Wed 1st July Atlantic 85 approx 14.00 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to assist a 10.3 m Dutch yacht with 2 people on board with machinery failure 3.5 nm south of Chichester Bar entrance. The vessel was towed to a nearby marina. follow
65 Thurs 25th June Atlantic 85 Diverted at 23.50 F3 The lifeboat was diverted by Solent Coastguard to a yacht on the Pilsey Sands thought to be in trouble but all OK. The lifeboat returned to station at 00.15.
64 Thurs 25th June Atlantic 85 22.30 F3 The lifeboat was launched  and returned to the yacht below. B Class and the yacht's crew returned to their vessel. The vessel was now afloat and escorted to a safe haven in Itchenor Reach. The lifeboat was returning to station when it was diverted to the incident above.
62/63 Thurs 25th June Atlantic 85 & D Class 19.23 F3 Both lifeboats were launched to a yacht aground and at a very acute angle. Four people were taken off the yacht by the D Class lifeboat and anchors were deployed. The lifeboats returned to station at 20.13.
61 Thurs 25th June D Class 18.53 F3

The lifeboat was launched to a small inflatable off South Hayling. The lifeboat returned to station at 19.18.

59/60 Wed 17th June Atlantic 85 & D Class 02.58 F2/3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to two men in a 10' dinghy, considered to be in danger in the vicinity of Itchenor. The dinghy was found near West Wittering and the two men were found ashore by the police. The lifeboat returned to station and was ready for service at 05.00.
58 Sun 14th June D Class 12.38 F2

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to two 12 year old girls stranded on a sand bank with an incoming tide.at West Wittering  The girls were picked up by the lifeboat and taken back to the shore safe and well. The lifeboat returned to station at 12.55.

57 Mon 8th June Crew assembly 13.00

The lifeboat was tasked to a 37ft yacht with jammed steering. The crew assembled but a launch was not required as the problem was fixed when the yacht's auto helm was switched off.

56 Sun 31st May Atlantic 85 The lifeboat was tasked to a large yellow/grey inflatable with 2 people onboard and one person in the water off the Inn on the Beach.

54/55 Sun 31st May Atlantic 85 & D Class Both lifeboats were launched to search for a child missing at West Wittering who may have been in the water.
53 Sun 31st May D Class still afloat The lifeboat was tasked to evacuate the search team from West Wittering to Sparkes Marina
52 Sun 31st May Atlantic 85 The lifeboat was launched to to yacht with machinery failure off Chichester Bar.
51 Sun 31st May crew assembly The lifeboat was tasked  to rescue a small inflatable at West Wittering. The crew assembled but the launch as not required.
50 Sun 31st May Atlantic 85 still afloat The lifeboat was tasked to transport a Coastguard Search Team from Sparkes Marina to Easthead.
49 Sun 31st May D Class still afloat The lifeboat was tasked to search for 2 children at West Wittering who may have been in the water.
48 Sun 31st May D Class still afloat The lifeboat evacuation of 10 adults and 5 children from sandbank cut off by the tide back to West Wittering beach.
47 Sun 31st May D Class still afloat Tasked to assist a man  stung by weaver fish. The man was taken ashore
46 Sun 31st May D Class still afloat The lifeboat was tasked to help a woman in the water at West Wittering.
44/45 Sun 31st May Atlantic 85 & D Class diverted from exercise Both lifeboats were tasked to search for a missing child West Wittering.
43 Fri 29th May D Class still afloat

Following release from previous incident, the lifeboat was tasked to a 40' power boat stranded on the Winner Bank, Chichester Harbour. All found OK. An anchor was laid out and the skipper and his wife left to await the incoming tide.

42 Fri 29th May D Class still afloat Whilst on scene, the Helmsman noticed two 14 yr old girls being swept out to sea (now 3/4 nm from shore) Both were in considerable difficulty, exhausted and hypothermic. Without the presence of the lifeboat, it is considered these two teenagers would have drowned. Both were taken ashore and passed into the care of both sets of parents, a lifeboat crew member and West Wittering Estates staff.
41 Fri 29th May D Class 19.37 The lifeboat was launched to a 4'6 orange plastic dinghy with one 24 yr old male being swept out to sea. The exhausted man and dinghy were taken back to shore with a crew member in attendance.
40 Fri 29th May Crew assembly 16.23 F4 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a man in a small dinghy in difficulty off West Wittering beach. The launch was cancelled as others had assisted him.
39 Wed 27th May Atlantic 85 19.22 F6

The lifeboat was tasked to search for two kite surf sails.  No sails were found as they had been recovered but one kite board was found. The lifeboat then continued on exercise.

38 Sun 24th May D Class still afloat F2 The lifeboat was diverted to a small dinghy with 4 people on board. The dinghy had no engine, just paddles, and it was drifting out to sea. The dinghy was towed back to the beach.
27 Sun 24th May D Class 15.10 F2 The lifeboat  was launched to a powerboat with 5 people on board that had broken down. The lifeboat took the vessel in tow, then handed the tow ove rto the Harbour Patrol vessel.
26 Sun 24th May Atlantic 85 14.18 F2 The lifeboat was launched to a speed boat with 5 people on board that had broken down just outside the harbour entrance. The vessel was initially towed by the Harbour Patrol vessel, then towed by the lifeboat to Northney.
35 Sun 24th May Atlantic 85 09.36 F2 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat following a report of a small partially submerged tender drifting with no persons on board 3.8 miles from Chichester Bar Beacon. The lifeboat was given a position and found it   After ascertaining that it had broken its mooring, the tender was taken onboard the lifeboat and returned to station where the tender was landed.   The lifeboat returned to station at 11.02
34 Sat 23rd May D Class 16.02 F3 The lifeboat was launched to search for a missing child from the beach who may have been in the water. The child was found safe and well ashore. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.28.
33 Sun 10th May D Class already afloat 12.40 Whilst en route to Bosham, the D Class was asked for assistance from a 15' fishing dory woith 2 peopleon board with an engine problems. The vessel was initially escorted then towed to Itchenor Hard, Itchenor Reach.  The D Class then rejoined B-829 on exercise up to Bosham.
32 Mon 4th May Atlantic 85 15.41 F4 The lifeboat was launched to a yacht that had run aground on West Pole Sands. When the lifeboat reached the casualty it had been towed to deeper water and was motoring back into the harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.04.
31 Mon 4th May D Class 15.41 F4 The lifeboat was launched to a yacht that had run aground near Emsworth. When the lifeboat reached the casualty it had already been towed into deeper water. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.02.
30 Wed 29th April D Class incident 20.25 F3 The lifeboat was returning from exercise when it spotted a 10m yacht aground on a sand bar which has recently become apparent in the channel just north of Hayling Island Sailing Club. As it was low water and the yacht had been proceeding slowly the lifeboat crew were able to attach a tow line and tow the vessel off the shallows into the channel and it was able to continue its journey. The lifeboat returned to station at 20.40 where it was made ready for further service.
28/29 Sun 26th April Atlantic 85 & D Class

 

20.30 F2 At the request of Hants Police, both lifeboats were launched to rescue a female on a speedboat aground on mudflats between the Ship Inn and Northney Marina. Light was fading fast. The female very cold as she had been there for three hours. The D Class was launched because of little water and the A85 was launched to provide back up if needed and acting as the on scene commander. The speed boat and and the woman were taken into Northney Marina. The lifeboats returned to station at 21.30 (A85) and 21.40 hrs (D Class).
26/27 Sun 26th April Atlantic 85 & D Class

 

12.28 F3 Both lifeboats were launched to assist a 44ft yacht, with 6 people on board, that had run aground on the Winner Bank in Chichester Harbour. The boat was pulled into deeper water by Hayling Rescue, also on scene. The lifeboat then escorted the yacht on its passage out of Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 13.00.
25 Sat 25th April D Class around 17.00 F3 The lifeboat was launched to assist a small speed boat with 3 people on board that had run aground opposite the lifeboat station. The lifeboat towed the speed boat  into deeper water and then to a nearby marina.
24 Sat 25th April Atlantic 85 01.20 F6 The lifeboat was launched to assist a woman, aged 66 on a yacht moored in the Itchenor Channel who may have been having a stroke. The crew transferred the casualty to an ambulance at Itchenor. The lifeboat returned to station at 02.15.
23 Thurs 23rd April Atlantic 85 22.13 F4/5 The lifeboat was launched at the request of West Sussex Police to two men (brothers ~ early twenties) who had sunk their dinghy and had to swim to the nearest yacht that they could climb on board. They were shouting for help and heard from the shore. The lifeboat picked up both the young men and returned them to to Bosham Quay. The lifeboat returned to station about 10.45.
22 Tue 21st April D Class 18.03 F3 Solent Coastguard received a report that a man was cut off by the tide. The lifeboat was launched and after searching the area no person in difficulty was found to be in difficult The lifeboat was stood down and returned to station.
21 Wed 8th April D Class 15.16 F4 The lifeboat was launched to a small motor boat that had run aground off Wittering Beach. The lifeboat crew checked that the two people from the boat who were now on the beach were OK and the lifeboat returned to station at 16.36. 
19/20 Sun 5th April Atlantic 85 & D Class Both lifeboats were tasked to search  for a small speed boat with 6 people on board which had broken down and was lost in the fog [details to follow]
18 Sun 5th April D Class when returning from station from the search below, the lifeboat  was tasked to the yacht assisted earlier in the day which was lost in the fog [details to follow}
16/17 Sun 5th April Atlantic 85 & D Class 17.15 Both lifeboats were tasked to search a sailing dinghy overdue and lost in the fog on passage from the Isle of Wight. The dinghy and its crew were found safe and well. [details to follow]
15 Sun 5th April Atlantic 85 12.39 F2 The lifeboat was tasked to a 25ft yacht  with 2 people on board that had run aground near Eastoke Point. The yacht was pulled clear and continued its journey
13/14 Wed 1st  April Atlantic 85 & D Class 19.02 The lifeboats were launched to a 33ft yacht with 2 people on board that had run aground just opposite the lifeboat station. The lifeboats pulled the yacht off the sandbank and the yacht continued its passage to Emsworth. The lifeboats returned to station at 19.30
12 Sun 29th March Atlantic 85 Whilst returning from the previous service the lifeboat was tasked to a person in the water off East Head. The dinghy sailor who was unharmed was taken on board the lifeboat which then took him and his dinghy in tow, back to the shore [service details to follow]
10/11 Sun  29th March Atlantic 85 & D Class Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to a 40ft motor cruiser on fire north of Hayling Island [service details to follow]

RNLI New Release

9 Sun 22nd  March Atlantic 85 16.00 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to go to a 15m yacht 3miles south if the lifeboat station which had a fouled propeller from a rope (possibly a lobster pot). The  lifeboat towed the yacht to safety in Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 18.15.
8 Sat 28th Feb Atlantic 85 17.18 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a 5m boat with an outboard engine and 2 people on board  which had run out of fuel in a falling tide in the shallow waters off East Pole Sands. When the lifeboat reached the vessel it towed it to a nearby marina where the owner was able to refuel. The lifeboat then escorted the vessel to Itchenor as the skipper was unfamiliar with the harbour waters. The lifeboat returned to station at 19.45.
7 Tue 24th Feb Atlantic 85 approx 15.20 F2 Soon after the first launch of the new lifeboat "Derrick Battle" on a training exercise, the lifeboat was tasked to assist a 35ft yacht that had broken down off Selsey. Selsey lifeboat was launched to the incident but Solent Coastguard also tasked the Atlantic 85 to be on standby in case the yacht needed a tow into Chichester Harbour. However the yacht managed to make its own way into the harbour and the lifeboat continued  its first training exercise
6 Wed 11th Feb Atlantic 75 16.51 F3
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat having received a report that a speedboat may have been in difficulty in Hayling Bay. When the lifeboat arrived on scene they found that it was a racing mark on its side. The lifeboat returned to station at 17.35
5 Tue 10th Feb Atlantic 75 10.37

 

F5 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat after receiving a report that there was a partially submerged boat drifting 3 miles offshore. After an extensive search, no vessel or persons were found to be in difficulty and the lifeboat returned to station at 11.50.
4 Sat 7th Feb Atlantic 75 15.04 F4
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a 6m yacht with engine problem just off Cobnor Point. The lifeboat reached the yacht at 15.16 and towed it to Chichester Marina. The lifeboat returned to station at 16.36.
2/3 Sat 17th Jan Atlantic 75 & D Class D Class launched at 16.05 Atlantic crew assembled at 16.06 F5 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of both boats to investigate 3 horses and 2 men that may have been in difficulty in the water. The D Boat launched but it was immediately  stood down as a report had been received that all the possible casualties were now safely ashore. The launch of the Atlantic was cancelled.
1 Sun 4th Jan Atlantic 75 11.00 (already afloat) F2/3 Solent Coastguard tasked the lifeboat, which was already afloat on a training exercise, to search for a boat reported to be on fire in the Bosham Channel. The lifeboat searched the area and found the skipper of a motor boat on board his boat who said that he had started his engine and great plumes of smoke came out of the exhaust. The lifeboat crew made sure that all was well on board the vessel. The D Class lifeboat, which was also already afloat, proceeded towards Bosham Quay to ensure that there was no other vessels showing signs of smoke further up the channel.  The lifeboats returned to the training exercise at 11.25.
