 For many of the rescues we are only able to give limited information to protect the confidentiality of the casualties.
 
 
In 2007 there were 79 requests for the Hayling Island lifeboats to be tasked to incidents.

78/79 Wed 26th Dec Atlantic 75 & D Class approx 19.20 Both lifeboats were launched to a missing man. Details to follow.
77 Sun 2nd Dec Atlantic 75 Crew assembled at 13.51 but launch not required F8 A windsurfer was reported missing in Bracklesham Bay. The lifeboat crew assembled but a launch was not required as the missing person was found ashore.
75/76 Sat 13th Oct Atlantic 75 & D Class Both boats were launched to search for a missing person. [details to follow]
73/74 Sat 29th Sept Atlantic 75 & D Class D Class 21.26 Atlantic 22.29 F2 Both boats were launch to search for a missing yacht believed to be in the harbour. After an extensive search the yacht was not found and the lifeboats were stood down by Solent Coastguard. The lifeboats returned to station at 23.32
72 Wed 26th Sept Atlantic 75 18.38 F5 Shortly after launching on exercise, the lifeboat  was tasked by Solent Coastguard.  A report had come in from a ferry that a submerged object showing a white light had been seen approx 400 metres south of Saddle Buoy. The lifeboat attended on scene and carried out a search pattern of the area adjacent to Horse Sand and No Mans Land Forts.  Later the search was extended towards Southsea but nothing was found.  At 20:47 the lifeboat was released back towards the station. After approx a further ten minutes CG reported that a lifejacket with an attached light had been found by a vessel off St Helens Fort. The lifeboat returned to station at 21.08.
71 Sun 16th Sept Atlantic 75 12.10 F5/6

The lifeboat had just returned to station when a sailing dinghy was seen from the shore crew to capsize on the Winner Bank and when righted to have a broken mast and could not see any safety boats in the area.  As the shore crew where informing the coastguard a passing vessel put out a Pan call about the same dinghy.   The Lifeboat was very quickly launched and arrived at the same time as Hayling Rescue who was responding to the PAN call. The lifeboat left Hayling Rescue to tow the dinghy in and returned to station a26th nd was made ready for further service at 12.30.

69/70 Sun 16th Sept Atlantic 75 & D Class diverted at 11.09 F5/6

Lifeboat had launched on exercise to meet the Coastguard Helicopter.   Solent Coastguard then diverted the lifeboat before the helicoper arrived following a PAN call from a vessel reportingthat it had hit an underwater obstuction off Hayling Island Sailing Club.   On arrival the lifeboat found the vessel hard aground on the Winner Bank.   With the incoming tide a crew member from Hayling ILB was put on board and another ILB crewmember took the towline from the Atlantic 75 to the vessel.   The vessel was towed off and then taken to Sparks Yacht Harbour.   The lifeboat then returned to station at 11.45.

67/68 Sun 2nd Sept Atlantic 75 & D Class Atlantic launched at 16.21 D CLass Crew assembled no launch required F4/5 The lifeboat was launched to search for a missing young boy in a sailing dinghy. The boy was found safe and well by a boat in the harbour and the lifeboat was returned to station at 16.21. The D Class was not required but the crew assembled
66 Wed 29th Aug D Class 20.30 already afloat F3 Whilst still afloat at the end of a training exercise, the lifeboat towed the French yacht with engine failure (see previous report) from a mooring into Sparks Marina. The lifeboat returned to station at 20.45
63/64/65 Wed 29th Aug Atlantic 75 17.03 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a 42ft  French yacht with engine failure thought to be anchored off West Wittering Beach whose skipper was unfamiliar with the area. On route the lifeboat crew found a yacht in difficulty on West Pole sands. The yacht was aground and in no imminent danger so the lifeboat crew laid an anchor for the casualty to await the rising tide. The lifeboat then went to the French yacht and towed it into Chichester Harbour to a mooring. On return to the lifeboat station the lifeboat crew spotted another yacht aground and towed it to deeper water. The lifeboat then returned to station at 18.50.
62 Sun 26th Aug Atlantic 75 c 22.15 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a 23ft yacht in difficulty at the entrance to Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat towed the yacht to a nearby pontoon.
59,60,61 Sun 26th Aug Atlantic 75 & D Class & D Class Lifeboat During the Lifeboats Display Event the lifeboats were tasked to 2 incidents on West Wittering Beach involving searches for missing children, The first incident required both boats and the second incident required the D Class lifeboat. All the children were found safe and well on the beach.
57/58 Sat 25th Aug Atlantic 75 & D Class c 18.00 Solent Costguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to assist in the search for missing children on West Wittering Beach Both children were found safe and well onthe beach
55/56 Mon 20th Aug Atlantic 75 & D Class c 0015 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to a dinghy with 2 people on board seen to be in difficulty near Nutborne. The lifeboats searched the area and found the casualties and the dinghy safe and well. The lifeboats returned to station at approx 01.15 [more details to follow]
54 Sat 11th Aug D Class 18.09 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to rescue 2 adults and 2 children stranded by the tide on West Pole Sands who were in the water.  They were all taken by lifeboat safely to the shore. Lifeboat returned to station at 18.40.
53 Sat 11th Aug Atlantic 75 14.15 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a sports boat with two adults and 4 children on board which had run aground in Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat crew transferred the adults and children safely to the shore and the boat was made secure. Lifeboat returned to station at 15.18
52 Fri 10th Aug crew assembled  13.15 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to search for a child lost on West Wittering beach. The crew assembled but before the lifeboat was launched the child was found safe and well.
50/51 Thurs 9th Aug Atlantic 75 & D Class 13.28 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of both lifeboats to search for a missing child on West Wittering Beach. Soon after launching and before reaching the search area the child was found safe and well and the lifeboats returned to station at 13.40.
46-49 Wed 8th Aug Atlantic 75 & D Class Atlantic 14.55 D Class 15.04 F 3 Both boats were launched when an inflatable rubber ring or dinghy was sighted in Hayling Bay. An inflatable ring was recovered and after an extensive search along the beach no person was found to be in difficulty. The lifeboats returned to station but were then tasked by Solent Coastguard to search for a missing child on West Wittering beach. Within a few minutes the child was found on the beach so the lifeboats returned to station at 15.40.
35-45 Sun 5th Aug Atlantic 75 various During a visit to Selsey to take part in a PR exercise, the lifeboat was tasked to 11 separate incidents; one involving a speed boat and 10 incidents involving missing children on the beach who may have been in the water.
34 Wed 1st Aug D Class 19.30 F2
The lifeboat was launched to a speedboat with a 75 HP outboard with machinery failure at the Harbour Entrance. The speedboat was  towed to Cobnor and secured to a mooring. Its crew were returned to the shore. The lifeboat returned to station at 20.20.

33 Wed 18th July Atlantic 75 Already afloat 20.36 F3 Whilst the lifeboats were on exercise they were tasked by Solent Coastguard to a yacht aground NE of East Head in Chichester Harbour. After ascertaining that all 3 people on board the yacht were OK, the lifeboat crew assisted by laying the yacht's anchor so that they would be held in the flood tide. The lifeboat returned to station at 20.45.
31/32 Wed 11th July Atlantic 75 & D Class Already afloat 20.28 Whilst the lifeboats were already afloat on a training exercise, they were tasked by Solent Coastguard to search for a possible person in the water off West Wittering after Solent Coastguard received a report that a person had been sighted in difficulty. After an extensive search of the area and the shore, no person in difficulty was found and the lifeboats were stood down,
30 Sun 1st July Atlantic 75 Crew assembled approx 17.50 F5 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to assist a windsurfer reported to be in difficulty near the entrance to Chichester harbour. The crew assembled ready to launch but the launch was cancelled as a boat nearby went to his assistance.
29 Sat 23rd June Atlantic 75 c 05.40 F4 Solent Coastguard had received a 999 call from the lock keeper at Birdham Pool informing them of a RIB adrift and down by the bow. It was thought that someone was in the bow. The lifeboat was launched and proceeded. Once on scene, it was established that a number of craft (including the casualty vessel) had been cut from their moorings, had had their engines stolen and left to drift. The casualty vessel was located and towed back to the Itchenor Sailing Club pontoon. The lifeboat returned to Station.
26/27/28 Tue 19th June Atlantic 75 & D Class c11.15 F5/6 Solent Coastguard requested the launch to search for a missing person who may have been in the water but who was later found safe ashore. During the search the Atlantic 75 was tasked to assist a kite surfer in difficulty.
24/25 Wed 13th June Atlantic 75 & D Class 21.48 Both boats were launched to assist a fishing vessel in difficulty 2 nm from the lifeboat station. The Atlantic 75 towed the vessel back into Chichester Harbour. The lifeboats returned to station at 23.17
23 Sun 10th June Atlantic 75 11.39 F4
The lifeboat was launched in response to a MAYDAY call from a motor vessel in difficulty approx  6 miles SE of Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat towed the vessel back to Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 13.38 ]

21/22 Fri 8th June Atlantic 75 & D Class 22.23 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboats to search for a vessel or person in distress following the receipt that a red distress flare had been sited.  After an extensive search in the harbour in the Emsworth Channel and around Langstone Bridge no vessel or person was found to be in distress and the lifeboats were stood down. The Atlantic lifeboat returned to station at 23.45 and the D Class returned to station at 00.05.
19/20 Thurs 7th June Atlantic 75 & D Class 21.23 F2/3 Both lifeboats were launched to search for a yacht with one person on board who required medical assistance. The yacht was found on a mooring off Thorney Island and the skipper  of the yacht was taken on  board  the Atlantic and transferred to Sparkes Marina and an ambulance. [details to follow]
18 Sun 20th May D Class 11.40 F3 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to a boat that was reported to be in difficulty in either Mengeham Rythe or Mill Rythe. The lifeboat crew searched both areas but no boat was found to be in difficulty and stood down by Solent Coastguard. The lifeboat returned to station at 12.20.
15-17 Sat 19th May Atlantic 75 16.19 F6
The lifeboat was launched when a MAYDAY was sent from a yacht who saw a capsized RIB near the entrance to Chichester Harbour. When the lifeboat reached the scene a nearby RIB had recovered two casualties from the water who were taken to the shore safe and well.
The lifeboat crew were then quickly tasked by Solent Coastguard to a nearby wind surfer seen to be in difficulty but assistance was not required as he was able to reach the shore. The lifeboat crew was then quickly tasked to another windsurfer nearby who was also in difficulty and the lifeboat crew took the casualty and his board and sail onto the lifeboat and returned him to the safety of the lifeboat station. The lifeboat crew then returned to the capsized RIB. Two lifeboat crew went onto the hull of the RIB and righted it. The RIB was then towed by the lifeboat into Chichester Harbour. The lifeboat returned to station at 17.50. [click here for more pictures]
14 Sat 12th May Atlantic 75 still afloat from service no 12 F7-8 The lifeboat was tasked to another yacht that had run aground on the south side of East Head. The lifeboat towed the yacht off the sands and towed it back to Hayling Island Sailing Club. The lifeboat returned to station at 13.30
13 Sat 12th May D Class 12.09 F7-8 The lifeboat was launched to assist a yacht aground on Pilsey Sands. When the lifeboat arrived on scene it had been pulled off the sands by the Harbour Patrol boat and the lifeboat returned to station at 12.30
12 Sat 12th May Atlantic 75 12.07 F7-8 Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to assist a 30ft motor vessel in the entrance to Chichester Harbour with engine trouble. Other vessels nearby also went  to assist the motor boat and the lifeboat  escorted the vessel, now under tow, into Chichester Harbour.
11 Tue 8th May Atlantic 75 15.11 F6 The lifeboat  was launched  to a 26' yacht with engine failure and the mainsheet had gone over the side. The yacht was being sailed single handed and the skipper did not  think he could cope getting into Chichester Harbour with the wind F6 WSW and a  mod sea. The vessel was towed into Sparkes Marina.
10 Sat 21st April Atlantic 75 c14.10 F3/4 The lifeboat was launched to assist an 18ft fishing boat which had its anchor caught on a line. Lifeboat crew went on board the boat and lifted the anchor. The lifeboat then returned to station.
9 Wed 18th April Atlantic 75 19.30 F4 The lifeboat was launched to assist a small speed boat with two men onboard that had run aground in Chichester Harbour on a falling tide. The two men, who were in tee-shirts and shorts and without life jackets were taken on board the lifeboat and taken back to the lifeboat station to warm up. They were later taken by a local Coastguard volunteer by car to the place where they launched the speedboat. At around 23.45 the lifeboat was re-launched to recover speedboat and towed it back to near Cobnor Point in Chichester Harbour. [more details to follow].
7/8 Sat 14th April Atlantic 75 & D Class 21.15 F2 Both lifeboats were launched following a report that a red distress flare had been seen. After searching in the harbour for over an hour the lifeboats were stood down when no vessel o persons in distress were found. The lifeboats returned to station at 22.30.
6 Mon 2nd April Atlantic 75 c 14.00 The lifeboat was launched to assist a boat with mechanical problems. - full details to follow
5 Sat 17th Feb Atlantic 75 c 17.00 The lifeboat was launched following a report that a wind surfer board and rig had been spotted floating in the sea and a person may be in difficulty.  When the lifeboat reached the scene it was found to be a large model aircraft which the lifeboat crew recovered. 4 Thurs 1st Feb Atlantic 75 13.25 F2
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the lifeboat to attend a vessel on fire in Chichester Marina in the event that it might be necessary to rescue any casualties from the water. On arrival at the scene the fire was determined to be extinguished by land based resources and no lives were at risk. The lifeboat returned to station at 14.30.

2/3 Wed 31st Jan Atlantic 75 & D Class 18.00 F4 Both lifeboats were launched to look for a possible missing windsurfer when a windsurfer rig was found on West Wittering beach. The lifeboats were tasked to search along the Hayling Beach. The Coastguard was then advised that a windsurfing rig had been lost some days ago and after the rig identified as the meeting equipment, the lifeboats were stood down and returned to station at 18.40.
