A
group of pupils, parents and
staff from Portsmouth High
School's Junior Department
presented a cheque to the RNLI
raised during a school charity
day which coincided with the
RNLI's national "SOS"
Fundraising Day on Friday 26th
January. Through several
activities, which included boat
building and colouring
competitions and the sale of
RNLI badges and other small
items, the school raised
£669.22. Year 3, under the

Message
from Siri Young, Chair of the Hayling
Island RNLI Fundraising Branch |
| |
|
On
behalf of the Hayling Island fundraising
Branch of the RNLI may I take this
opportunity to thank all the Island
residents and visitors who so
generously supported us during 2006.
Through various events throughout the
year we managed to raise £12 985.65.
This money will be used to support the
work of our local lifeboat station here
on Hayling Island and represents a
significant increase on previous years'
totals. I would also like to thank Paul
and Linda Taylor who very kindly
permitted us to use their premises
"Focus Watersports" in Mengham to sell
our Christmas merchandise. A list of
events for 2007 will be available
shortly on this website . |

Helena sings for the "Train One
Save Many" appeal |
|
|
|
THE
HAYLING ISLAND RNLI Station will
now be able to fund the training
of two more crew members thanks
to Hayling Island Sailing Club
and the Hayling Island
RNLI fundraising branch who
organised a successful musical
evening and supper on Friday 10th
November for the RNLI’s “Train
One Save Many” campaign. |
|
Over 180 people enjoyed the main
attraction, Helena, a lively and
passionate entertainer, who sang
songs from the 60s to the 90s.
She is well known for a song,
“We Laughed”, which reached No
11 in the charts last year. This
was Helena’s second public
appearance on Hayling following
a similar RNLI event held at
Mengeham Rythe Sailing Club last
year. |
|
|
During the evening, a “Promises
Auction” was also held, with
HISC member, Paul Covell, acting
as auctioneer. The auction
raised £1,285 towards the final
total of £2,141. Paul, who had
been part of the Hayling Island
RNLI boat crew from 1975 to
1988, encouraged some spirited
bidding for the lots, all of
which had been donated. One lot
alone, a sailing trip for two on
the
Grand Prix Volvo Extreme 40
Catamaran, donated by
Basilica, raised £475. |
|
Siri Young, Chair of the Hayling
Island RNLI Fundraising Branch
would like to thank
the Commodore and
members of HISC for the use of
their club and their help in
making the evening such a
successful fundraising event. |
