Welcome to the
Hayling Island Lifeboat Station's
Website |

|

|
|
The
Royal National Lifeboat Institution
is a registered charity that saves
lives at sea. It provides, on
call, the 24-hour year round service necessary
to cover search and rescue
requirements 100 miles out from the
coast of the United Kingdom and the
Republic of Ireland. |
|
 |
|
Hayling Island Lifeboat Station
is situated on the South East corner
of the Island, known locally as
Sandy Point. It overlooks the
entrance to Chichester Harbour which
enable quick access to the whole of
Chichester Harbour, the
harbour bar and the adjacent sands
and shingle banks which are known as
the East and West Pole Sands.
|
| |
|
The area of
Chichester Harbour is 22 sq miles
when the tide is in and 11 sq miles
when the tide is out. |
| |
|
The
station has two inshore lifeboats,
an Atlantic 75 B Class lifeboat "Betty
Battle" and a D Class lifeboat
(IB1)
"Amanda, James & Ben". Both boats
are operational 24/7 all year round
and cover an area 15 nautical miles
from the lifeboat station. |

In preparation
for a new lifeboat in
2008, which will be
larger and will replace
the Atlantic 75, B Class
Lifeboat, an extension
to the lifeboat station
was started in April
2007 and completed at
the end of November.
The new extension
is a 19 metre by 11
metre boat hall and
upper storey alongside
the current building.
The existing
accommodation has been
rearranged to provide a
dedicated training and
education facility, a
larger changing room,
male and female toilets
and an enlarged museum
for visitors. There is a
now a new RNLI
information centre.

No RNLI
funds have been used to pay for this
website hosting. The funding of this
website for this year has been paid
for by the executors of the late Mrs
Ruby Carter who lived in Guildford.
Mrs Carter was a Shoreline Member
and followed the activities of the
Hayling Island lifeboats with a very
keen interest. |

The
Hayling Island lifeboat crew would
like to thank Wargrave RNLI
Fundraising Branch for providing
funds to buy a digital water proof
camera for the station and also to
thank Bentley Walker Ltd, Hayling
Island for supplying the camera. The
camera is used for training and
publicity purposes. |

This
website has been designed by the
Hayling Island Lifeboat Crew who
also manage and update the
